Why Join?

Joining Cuchara Hermosa connects you to a group of ladies who love and live, at least part of the year, in the Cuchara Valley. Cuchara Hermosa events provide wonderful opportunities for women in our community to meet and socialize. But Hermosa is so much more. Hermosa has a rich history beginning in 1964. Our mission is to beautify our valley and enhance the lives of its residents.

When you join Hermosa you are immediately connected with a network of over a hundred ladies who all love Cuchara. This energetic group of women work together to raise funds to enable us to maintain the playground at the Community Center, plant flowers at the base of the parkway, which welcomes all those who come to Cuchara. Hermosa maintains the flower beds in front of our Community Center and the beautiful flowers in the coal cart in the village are provided by our group. Hermosa shares in the expense of maintaining our tennis courts, which was one of Hermosa's projects in 1972, and providing the bathrooms at the park.

Your dues go to funding the administrative expenses of our 501C(4) non-profit organization as well as beautification projects. For many years Cuchara Hermosa has given money to a variety of worthwhile projects. Some recent donations were made to the La Veta Fire Department and EMS, the La Veta School Backpack program which helps provide supplemental food for children, the Cuchara Chapel scholarship fund which helps deserving children from local schools attend college, the Franscico Center for the Performing Arts, and SPACE gallery, to name a few. During the summer, Cuchara Hermosa hosts the Welcome Back Potluck dinner, the June potluck dinner, as well as luncheon meetings in July and August.
